You’ll not likely spot early ’60s Betty Draper in a pair of short tailored shorts – only neat, tapered pedal pushers from time to time – but then Nathan Elson’s shoot Mad Women isn’t about recreating T.V show characters to the last detail. Instead the concept as styled by Tracey MacCorquodale picks up on the inspirational thread of AMC’s series and weaves it into the shoot in a modern way.

Elegant pearl earrings dangle from beneath perfectly set hair (created by Mallory McGowan, as was the makeup); skin is flawless, lips red, and outfits wouldn’t be complete without their hats, scarves, gloves and clutches.

And yet, nothing in Elson’s shoot feels like you couldn’t wear it today.
